Denying the Antecedent

– if you are a ski instructor you have a job, you are not a ski instructor, thus you have no job.

In this fallacy, there are two statements, because the first is false, the second must also be false.

e.g. If I had a romantic partner, I’d be happy.

I do not have a romantic partner, therefore I’m not happy.

So the correct reasoning is that, for the sake of this argument, the first statement is true, a girlfriend would make a person happy. But they could still be happy without one, logically.

It can be recycled into many contexts:

If I had friends, I’d be happy.

I don’t have friends, I’ll never be happy.

If women found me attractive, they’d date me.

If women were attracted to me, then I could get a girlfriend. Women are not attracted to me. Therefore, I can never get a girlfriend.

Real men have had sex.

I haven’t had sex, I’m not a real man.

So the fallacy falsely links two statements that are not inherently linked.

EACH THING IS WHAT IT IS.

Happiness is not ONE thing

ONE thing is not happiness

THERE IS NOT ONE HAPPINESS

HAPPINESS FLOWS
